Short Blog 6 — White Rock COVID Messaging

This was a message board found in front of the White Rock Pier.

I appreciate the clear message, but I think the sign itself is slightly misleading. By putting two outstretched hands somewhat close to each other, it makes the actual required physical distancing seem smaller than it appears.

In addition, the sign seems rather bland and intrusive. It seems more of a strong order, as opposed to using positive reinforcement. I do however love the colour choice, matching BC’s iconic sunset over the ocean logo.

Despite the sign’s intentions, on a sunny day people usually forego the sign’s message in favour of taking a crowded stroll along the promenade. But as vaccinations start to increase, we might not have to worry about arm-lengths after all.
